FACE Discussion and Learning Group

Building on the Virtual Coffee Houses and bias training last year, the FACE Committee has started a “Discussion and Learning” Group. The purpose of the group is to dive into a specific topic each year and provide a place for learning and growing for individuals in our community.
This year we will be reading and discussing Jennifer Eberhardt’s book “Biased”. Eberhardt’s book focuses on the science and implications of societal and personal biases plus how we can change our behavior to help end our role in perpetuating the consequences of bias. An introduction to the book can be found at https://youtu.be/pD5a3-v9KZs.
While it is hard to confront our own bias and racism, awareness and discussion is a step in healing. We will move through the book a few chapters at a time for the rest of the year. Reading the book is encouraged but it is not required to participate. You also are welcome to join discussions if you have missed past meetings. The book is available with the following resources:
-
For borrow at the Pierce County library (audio, ebook and hard copy)
-
For gifting from the Chambers PTA (email face@chambersprimarypta.com if you would like a copy)
We plan to meet virtually every 3 to 4 weeks on Thursday evening from 7:15 to 8:15pm.
